Useful resources that have helped me improve communication skills
The most useful tip that I learned from this book has completely changed my presentation style. The tip is "less is more". Not really awe-inspiring. Maybe even a platitude to some people. But I didn't realize the power of "less" until I forced myself to introduce my complex and novel research in one simple sentence. If everything you said in a 10-minute talk is just this simple sentence, would you still worry that the audience didn't get the message? Of course not. But this is an extreme case and we don't really want to get embarrassed by just saying one sentence in a talk. But the idea is that "less is more". We should try to present it in a way that it is not possible for the audience to miss the take-away message, even with very limited attention after a whole session's information. Then the key to this goal is "less is more"
